Installing your aged brass sheets
Brass is a soft alloy so needs to be handled with care. Try not to drop or bash the sheet when moving it around otherwise it may become damaged. Aged brass sheets can be installed using screw fixings or adhesive depending on the situation. Where possible, try not to drill holes into the sheet as you may damage the lacquer and leave metal exposed. If you need any help with installation or sizing, contact the team here at Buy Metals Online. We would be only too happy to help!Aged brass
Brass is an alloy made up of copper and zinc. The proportions of which give brass the lustrous finish and wide variety of depths and colours. We take standard brass sheets and accelerate the ageing process to provide its key character. Then we finish with a gloss lacquer to deliver the shine and to stop the ageing process. The gloss lacquer should last many years, but can be worn through using harsh chemicals, repeated washing, excessive heat and poor treatment. Sheets can be protected through careful use and the lacquer reapplied if necessary.Caring for your aged brass sheets
Aged brass sheets should require minimal maintenance depending on where they are installed. If a sheet requires cleaning, use warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth. Do not use a scouring sponge or chemical cleaning products as this will accelerate the wear of the lacquer. Wipe any spills immediately and wash down with warm soapy water. Avoid contact with other metals to prevent a reaction. Get in touch with Josh, on 07703 567916 or josh@specialtyservices.co.uk, for a no-obligations custom quote. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaning items as this with wear away the lacquer and chase the metal to continue to age and change. For heavy use products such as bar and table tops, always:- 1. Clean gently with warm and soapy water
- 2. Use heat mats when required
- 3. Avoid scratching
- 4. Clean spills immediately
- 5. Re-lacquer if required

What is Brushed Brass?
Brass Without Brassiness
We take our iconic, golden-coloured basis brass and add a brushed finish to take away the shine. Perfect for contemporary interiors, where matte is a must, this duller surface makes for a striking focal point in the home. Our customers have used their brushed brass sheets to create stunning splashbacks, wall coverings and more. And it's not just good looks that this one has got going for it: the brushed texture makes it less likely to attract fingerprints and other marks, so it's easier to maintain, too. Before we send you your brushed brass, we add a crystalline wax to lock in the finish and protect it for years to come.
Even before brushing, our sheet brass (also known as CZ108 or basis brass) is an excellent metal for use in interior design. As well as its timeless golden hue, this alloy of zinc and copper is a brilliant all-rounder: it's easy to engrave and work whether cold or hot, and possesses a high tensile strength.
As with all our products, we offer a free cutting service on our brushed basis brass, plus there's no minimum order. So, if you're looking for a stylish sheet metal to use in your home, we can help, no matter how big or small the project.
Good for:
Interior design, splashbacks, kitchens, bathrooms, focal points, wall coverings, signage, art.
How it’s made:
Zinc and copper are melted down and mixed together with the aid of a red-hot furnace. For our CZ108 sheets, we use a high concentration of 37% zinc, which makes the finished product more workable and versatile. The mix is poured into moulds to cool into solid blocks called cakes. When they're cool enough, the cakes are put through rolling machines to transform them into flat sheets. Each sheet is 'scalped', a process that involves the removal of the oxidised outer layer. In many cases, the basis brass is reheated and / or cold-rolled, until it reaches the desired thickness and strength. We then brush the CZ108 to remove any shine and create that matte look, before sealing it all in with crystalline wax
Benefits:
Bright golden colour
Contemporary matte finish
Workable (hot and cold)
Strong and long-lasting
Random fact:
You're probably closer to the nearest piece of brass than you think, given the fact that this metal is used for hundreds of everyday household items. Zips, buttons, keys, plug pins, door handles, letterboxes, watches and clocks all utilise brass.

What is brass sheeting?
The bold one With its unmistakable golden hue, everyone knows what brass looks like, but it’s its properties that make this metal such a perennially popular choice. An alloy of copper and zinc, brass sheet is used for everything from screws to radiators. Brass is great for hot forging and engraving; it’s also highly resistant to corrosion, brilliant at conducting heat and boasts a high tensile strength. Our brass sheet, CZ108, is also known as basis brass. It’s extremely flexible and just the job when severe bending is needed. Containing 37% zinc, its high purity makes it workable at both hot and cold temperatures, which is why it’s one of the most sought after varieties of brass sheet. Suppliers of all kinds of sheet metal, we can provide your CZ108 in exactly the size you need, with no minimum order. If it’s polished brass sheet you’re looking for, just let us know – we can arrange for your CZ108 to be buffed before it comes to you. Good for: Chains, hinges, locks, bolts, kick-plates, handles, radiators, signage, tubes, pipes, musical instruments, lamps, light switches, decorative applications and lots more. How it’s made: The desired quantities of zinc and copper are melted and mixed together in a scorching furnace, before being poured into moulds where they cool into solid shapes known as cakes. Once they’ve cooled down, the cakes are fed through rollers, which flatten them into thin sheets. Next, the sheets are ‘scalped’, a process which strips off the thin, outer layers of the metal which may have been subject to oxidisation. The sheets are often then re-heated and annealed, or cold-rolled, a number of times, until the required strength and thickness is reached. Benefits:- Conducts heat
- Workable both hot and cold
- High tensile strength
- Resistant to corrosion

Brass kitchen splashbacks
Brass splashbacks from Buy Metal Online are carefully selected for their quality, looks and finish. We select the best brass out there and can provide it in standard sizes or cut it to size. Lead time for lacquering can be up to 10 working days from order. Brass is richer and has more character than stainless steel yet is just as easy to work with. All of our brass splashbacks are delivered ready to fit. All splashbacks can be affixed using metal fixings or adhesives. This flexibility is one of the reasons metal splashbacks are so popular! Metal splashbacks have several advantages over plaster or tile. They are easier to fit, requiring just some fixings or adhesive. They are easier to clean, with no grooves and no grout to discolour and they are available in a range of colours and finishes that tile just cannot compete with. Best of all, they are affordable too! They can be cheaper to buy and install than tile, can last longer if looked after properly and are exceptionally durable. All characteristics we look for in our kitchens.Caring for your brass splashback
Another key advantage of brass is that it is very low maintenance. All you need to keep it clean is some warm water. Wipe it down regularly and your brass splashback will give you many years of faithful service! If you splash anything acidic, deeply coloured, or abrasive onto your brass splashback, wipe clean immediately to prevent marking or discolouration.Custom brass splashbacks for your home
