In terms of colour, black is design neutral and will fit seamlessly with most design features and fittings. although these planters are ideally suited to use in contemporary projects, they are almost as completely at home in more traditional or rustic locales – unlike their white counterparts. The glossy black fibreglass that they are finished in will look equally as aesthetically pleasing when set against wood, steel or stone. In addition to all of the above, what really makes this planter a specialist item is the shape that it has been made in. We call these planters ‘barrier’ or ‘divider’ planters, because that is exactly what they have been designed for. Trough planters in general are ideal for creating natural walls or barriers, when planted with tall plants like bamboo. The barrier planter has been specifically designed to be more suited to this purpose. It is much taller than the standard trough, allowing you to obtain the height you need far more easily. While privacy might well be obtained by building a fence or a wall – creating a natural barrier this way has a number of advantages. First and foremost – it is far less intrusive than building a wall. That is to say, when good relationships or permission for a permanent fixture does not allow, there is no stigma or prohibition to planting bamboo in your garden. Secondly, they are movable. That is to say that while a wall, once built, is not easy to remove or relocate, a garden planter certainly is. Though it worth noting that some of our divider planters have a considerable volume – and when filled with soil, they will be extremely heavy and difficult to move without first emptying them. We have chosen to make these planters out of fibreglass for a number of reasons. Fibreglass has proven itself time and time again when compared to more traditional building materials like metal (particularly lead) or stone. A great deal of planters have in the past been manufactured from lead, which is not suitable for modern manufacture. Not only is it impractically heavy (even without being filled with soil) but it is toxic. Weight is similarly a problem with stone, and stone (and terracotta for that matter) is far more likely to crack at the first sign of frost. In the past, the downside of fibreglass was that it was hard to replicate the aesthetic appearance of these traditional materials without the result looking like a fixture of a tacky theme park. However, developments in fibreglass manufacturing now allow us to manufacture imitation items that are in all ways indistinguishable from the items they are imitating – without lifting or otherwise subjecting them to a rigorous physical examination. In addition to being lightweight, they are also resistant to ultraviolet light (preventing bleaching) and far less likely to suffer the adverse effects of tempestuous weather than their counterparts. It is for this reason, that it is in many ways a smart material, that the majority of our products by some margin are made from fibreglass.

Unlike some of the planters in our range, and in the ranges of our competitors, this item will look equally at home whether it is place indoors our outdoors. These aren’t the kind of planters that you will find at most garden centres, rather, these are high quality, robust pieces of furniture that are intend for placement on prestigious commercial sites. You might see black planters like this in the luxuriously decked out lobbies of skyscrapers or elite hotels. This black fibreglass planter could be described in many ways, but something it is not is rustic. It has been designed with clean lines and glossy faces – it is suited for modern design schemes and contemporary planting themes, and in truth, if planted in a quaint or rustic country garden, it might just look a little bit out of place. In which case, these larger black pots might be an ideal and interesting solution for planting bamboo. If you have a large indoor space like a lobby, you could create a great deal of height and structure this way. It would be completely feasible to create microcosmic columns of bamboo forest in a corporate space – changing the way its inhabitants things. This would be a bad way to promote privacy and tranquility in what might otherwise be a hectic and high pressure environment.

Matte black is probably the most subtle and least intrusive finish we have in our entire range. As such this matte black fibreglass barrier planter is probably the item we sell with more utility than any other. Trough planters are often meaningfully used with tall plants like bamboo to create natural barriers in their gardens or outdoor spaces. This ‘barrier’ or divider planter is a trough that has been made taller explicitly for this purpose. Double the height of a normal trough, it is far easier and much faster to create a natural wall than it would be with your average trough. The reality of modern living is that if we find ourselves in homes that have any outdoor space, they are far from private and tranquil. We wouldn’t tolerate living in houses with only glass walls to separate us from our neighbours, so why do we tolerate it in our gardens? Further to this, unlike a wall or a fence, a garden planter is a non-permanent and non-offensive way of creating a screen. However, these ‘natural walls’ are not only suited to ensuring your privacy but the can also be used elsewhere in your garden to create structure or sustain meaningful divisions. This is particularly important in very large gardens or garden spaces that are oddly wide or elongated.
