What is Brushed Copper?
A Vibrant and Matte Interior Finish
Metal doesn’t always have to be smooth and gleaming, as our specialist brushed copper sheets prove. If you shy away from the shiny and prefer your metal more muted, these hand-rendered sheets could be just what you’re looking for. Not only do they attract fewer fingerprints and are therefore far easier to maintain than shinier metals, they look good too. The textured finish is duller than our regular copper sheets, making these sheets the perfect choice for those seeking a less polished (but still stylish) surface. We seal the brushed sheets with a crystalline wax to preserve the finish for years to come. It’s up to you how you use your brushed copper, but our customers particularly love to include this rich, distinctive metal in kitchens and bathrooms for features such as splashbacks and wall coverings. The unique, vibrant colour of copper brings warmth and a vintage aesthetic to any room, whilst the brushed finish gives it a contemporary (and easy to care for) edge.

At Buy Metal Online, we’re proud of our free cutting service, which allows you to order exactly the amount of sheet metal you need. Plus there’s no minimum order, so we can supply you with as much or as little brushed copper as you need.
Good for:
Interior design, counter-tops, splashbacks, wall coverings, bar-tops, panels, art features and more.
How it’s made:
Copper ore-containing minerals are mined from the ground before undergoing extensive treatment to extract the metal. First, the rocks are milled to remove any excess, non-copper materials. but the resulting product still contains other elements such as sulphur and iron. In order to remove these, a process called smelting, involving two very hot furnaces, needs to take place. The result is the ‘copper blister’, which contains 99% pure copper, and still needs to be further refined,. After another furnace and an electrorefining process, the pure copper is cast into ingots or rods. In order to create sheet copper, these bulkier pieces are rolled out until they’re flat. Finally, we hand-brush the surface of the metal to give it that matte finish, then seal the deal with a layer of protective crystalline wax.
Benefits:
Easy to maintain
Striking colour
Contemporary matte finish
Malleable and versatile
What our customers say about us:
“Great service, and if you have a query they just ring and you even get a named person to talk to at the other end, how rare is that?!” – Gordon R, Trustpilot review, August 2020.
Random fact:
Copper was the first metal to be worked and utilised by human beings, with the first use being approximately 10,000 years ago. A copper pendant found in Iraq was estimated to be from around 8700BC. For many thousands of years, human beings believed that copper was the only metal; this and its malleability meant it was used for all kinds of purposes, from art and jewellery through to weapons.
