Weathered Corten Sheets
Buying Options
Corten steel is also known as weathering steel, or COR-TEN steel. It is specially formulated to provide the strength and stability of traditional steel with an attractive patina. A thin layer of oxide forms on the outside surface of the steel, giving it that attractive burnt orange colour of rust.
This layer is thin and does not affect the material’s strength or longevity which is why it is so popular. In fact, that oxidised layer helps to protect the material from the elements and negates the need for finishing, which is why it was invented in the first place!
We are proud to be one of the only UK online metal suppliers to offer weathered Corten – Please note there is a 10-14 working days lead time for this product. Please contact the sales team at sales@buymetalonline.co.uk for more information

How is Corten Steel Manufactured?
Corten steel is manufactured in a foundry, rolled into sheets and cut to size. It is then coated with a special oil mixture that helps create the oxidisation. The oil naturally dries and breaks down, turning to rust. This process can take anywhere between 3 to 10 months and will gradually deepen in colour and character.
Benefits of Rusted Corten Steel
The advantage of buying weathered Corten steel is that you don’t need to wait for 3 – 10 months to enjoy the amazing colour and texture of Corten. This is especially relevant if you are planning on using Corten for interior decorating.
